Five Windows Tips
Show Some Hospitality
If you ever plan on letting anyone else use your computer, create a guest account for them. That way they won't have to deal with your cluttered desktop, and you won't have to worry about them changing something they shouldn't. In Windows 7, right-click Computer, and select Local User and Groups, and then Users to enable guest access.
See Your IP Address with ipconfig /all
When you're setting up a home network, playing LAN games, or troubleshooting a faulty Internet connection, you often need to know information like your local IP address, local gateway, and DNS servers. These can all be found in Windows' networking properties, but the power-user way to scope out your network stats is to open a command prompt and enter the following command: ipconfig /all.
Use CMD and Explorer.exe Together
You probably already know that you can open a command prompt from the explorer in Windows 7 and Vista by holding shift and right-clicking, but did you know you can also do the reverse? To open an explorer menu at your current location in the command prompt, simply enter the following command (including the period): start.
Access the Resource Monitor
You've probably used the Windows Task Manager, but did you know that there's a more advanced version available in Windows Vista and 7 called the Resource Monitor? To access a ton of extra information about your CPU, RAM, disk, and network usage, click the Resource Monitor button in the Task Manager's Performance tab.
Enable Check Boxes
Holding the CTRL key lets you select multiple files in a folder window, but you can also use check boxes to make selecting multiple files a one-hand task in Windows Vista and 7. To enable check boxes, launch Folder Options from the Tools menu of any Explorer window. Go to the View tab and check the "Use check boxes to select items" setting.

New Google patent: How to judge the value of a link
Google has been granted a new patent with the name "Determining quality of linked documents"
some days ago. The patent might give us further insight on how Google judges the influence of a link on the search engine positions of a web page.
What is the patent about? Here's the official abstract:
"A ranking component ranks documents, such as web pages or web sites, to obtain a ranking score that defines a quality judgment of the document. The ranking score of a particular document is based on the ranking score of the documents which link to it and based on affiliation among the documents."
According to the patent description, Google could rank the backlinks to a web page differently based on the relation of the pages to each other.
